“Pelosi said should go to prison. But she said nothing about a trial or a jury or a presumption of innnocence [sic],” Giuliani, President Trump’s lawyer, tweeted Sunday evening.

“Is this worse than Joe McCarthy? They are destroying any adherence to our constitution. And the Fake News failure to hold them accountable is corrupt.”

Pelosi reportedly said last week that she wanted Trump to go to prison while pushing back against fellow Democrats who want to impeach him, arguing it would be better to defeat Trump in 2020 and then see him prosecuted in court instead of Congress.

Trump seized on those reported remarks, calling her “a disgrace” on Friday.

“Nervous Nancy Pelosi is a disgrace to herself and her family for having made such a disgusting statement, especially since I was with foreign leaders overseas,” Trump tweeted aboard Air Force One while flying back from a weeklong trip to the United Kingdom, France and Ireland.

Giuliani on Sunday appeared to suggest that the remarks from Pelosi were tantamount to McCarthy leading investigations against Americans accused of being Communists or Communist sympathizers, even with little to no evidence suggesting that was the case.

Pelosi’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the former New York City mayor’s tweet.
