The first Blue Maps of the week are scheduled to be awarded today.

It’s Day 2 of the AHSAA Baseball Championships in Montgomery, with play at Paterson Field and Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. By the end of the day, we should have new champs crowned in Classes 1A and 3A. Remember, every matchup is a best-of-three series.

FINAL SCORE: CLASS 4A GAME 1: UMS-Wright 5, Madison Academy 1

9:11 PM, It’s over: UMS-Wright turns a double play to get the victory.

9:06 PM, New pitcher: UMS-Wright’s Conner Jednat has to leave after reaching 120 pitches with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Tanner Allen now on the mound.

8:52 PM, We’re through six: Madison Academy loads the bases with two outs and Chase Barker draws a walk. The Mustangs leave the bases loaded and trail 5-1.

8:32 PM, Still a shutout: Madison Academy puts runners on first and second with two outs, but Conner Jednat gets his seventh strikeout of the game to end the fifth inning.

8:20 PM, More breathing room: UMS-Wright added two runs on two-out singles by Will Chapman and Dalton Goff to go up 5-0. Madison Academy pulled starting pitcher Jake Christa for Evan Liddie.

8:04 PM, Mustangs denied: Madison Academy puts runners on second and third with one out, but UMS-Wright pitcher Conner Jednat gets consecutive strikeouts to end the fourth inning.

7:55 PM, UMS tacks on another: Skipper Snypes led off the top of the fourth with a double and later scored on Brant Dixon‘s two-out single through the left side of the infield. It’s 3-0 Bulldogs.

7:37 PM, Odd run: UMS-Wright’s Tanner Allen doubled with one out and it looked like he would end up being a stranded runner. But a two-out pop fly in the infield near the first-base line was dropped, allowing Allen to score for a 2-0 lead midway through the third.

7:23 PM, It’s outta here!: UMS-Wright’s Evan Hannah drills a two-out, two-strike pitch over the left-field wall. The Bulldogs lead 1-0 as we move to the bottom of the second. It could be 2-0, but Madison Academy catcher Justin McCaghren threw out a runner trying to steal third base for the second out of the inning. McCaghren is 2-for-2 on throwing out would-be base stealers today.

7:14 PM, Slick move: UMS pitcher Conner Jednat, a lefty, executes a perfect pickoff move to first base for out three. We’re scoreless after one inning.

7:06 PM, We’re underway: UMS-Wright‘s Tanner Allen, a Mississippi State signee, hit a leadoff single, but was later thrown at at second trying to steal. No score midway through the first.

6:50 PM, Tonight’s starting pitchers: Madison Academy’s Jake Christa, a South Alabama signee, will square off against UMS-Wright’s Conner Jednat.

FINAL SCORE: CLASS 3A, GAME 2: GORDO 9, PIEDMONT 2

FINAL SCORE: CLASS 2A, GAME 1: G.W. LONG 5, FAYETTVILLE 0

5:43 PM, Congrads! Gordo defeated Piedmont 9-2 to earn the Class 3A state championship. Gordo swept the series to earn its fourth state baseball title in school history. (2002-03, 2011, 2017).

5:40 PM, Gordo in Control: Gordo leads Piedmont 9-2 entering the bottom of the 7th inning. Gordo is three outs away from a Class 3A state baseball title. 

5:35 PM, Ballgame: G.W. Long defeats Fayetteville 5-0 in Game 1 of the Class 2A series. Wells Deloney tosses a one-hitter. Game 2 is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium.

5:31 PM, Last chance for Fayetteville: The Wolves trail 5-0 after six innings. G.W. Long loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t cash in.

5:25 PM, Gordo on the Go: Gordo scores five runs in the bottom of the 5th, led by Collin Herring’s three-run triple. Gordo leads 7-2. 

5:16 PM, More breathing room: G.W. Long leads Fayetteville 5-0 after five innings. Matt Snell’s sac fly and a bases-loaded balk produced two Rebels runs. Long’s Wells Deloney has allowed just one hit.

5:08 PM, Here comes the Bulldogs: With two outs, Piedmont scores its first run of the 3A title series… Then an infield error on a popup ties the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth… Piedmont left two on base when Taylor Morrow grounded out.   

4:59 PM, Rebels tack on two: G.W. Long goes ahead 3-0 after four innings on a fielder’s choice RBI and a Cole Hatcher RBI single through the left side. Fayetteville’s Sam Manning led off the top of the inning with a walk, but was stranded at third.

4:40 PM, Add another: Collin Herring‘s RBI single gives Gordo a 2-0 lead over Piedmont after three innings.

4:37 PM, Damage averted: G.W. Long puts runners on first and second with two outs via a bunt single and an error, but Fayetteville pitcher Peyton Wesson gets a strikeout to end the third inning.

4:30 PM, Still close: Gordo leads Piedmont 1-0 after two innings at Riverwalk.

4:24 PM, One the scoreboard: G.W. Long loads the bases on a single, walk and hit batter, then score on a fielder’s choice. The Rebels strand runners at the corners and lead Fayetteville 1-0 after two innings.

4:17 PM, To the 2nd: Gordo leads Piedmont 1-0 after one inning in Class 3A, Game 2. Thomas Langdon with an RBI single to left-center. Gordo won the opener Monday.

:11 PM, End of 1: G.W. Long and Fayetteville are tied 0-0 in Game 1 of Class 2A. The Wolves stranded a runner at second. The Rebels went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning.

3:45 PM, Starting pitchers: G.W. Long’s Wells Deloney is facing Fayetteville’s Peyton Wesson.

FINAL SCORE: Class 1A Game 3: Sweet Water 8, Decatur Heritage 7

2:13 PM, MVP!: Sweet Water‘s Jonah Smith won the MVP award.

1:53 PM, Ball game: Sweet Water‘s Jonah Smith delviers two-run single to lift Bulldogs to an 8-7 win and the Class 1A state title.

1:42 PM, Run!: Decatur Heritage scores a run in the top of the eighth and leads 7-6. It’s do or die for Sweet Water.

1:29 PM, Free baseball: Headed to the eighth inning, tied at 6-all.

1:21 PM, Still tied: Decatur Heritage‘s Jackson Parker strikes out to end the top of the seventh with a man on second. Can Sweet Water win it here in the bottom of the seventh?

Sweet Water’s 4-5-6 hitters are coming to the plate.

1:15 PM, Could we be headed to extra innings?: After six full innings, it’s tied 6-all. Decatur Heritage seems to have all the momentum right now.

1:09 PM, End of inning: After five and half innings, it’s tied at 6-all.

1:08 PM, Tie game: Decatur Heritage‘s Walker Jones scored on a throwing error when he got caught in a  rundown, and Heath Bolton’s RBI single on the next pitch ties the game at 6-all.

That’s five runs in the top of the sixth for Decatur Heritage.

1:03 PM, Big hit: Decatur Heritage‘s Garrett Buckner delivers a two-out, two-RBI double to right-center, and Sweet Water‘s lead dwindles to 6-4 with two outs in the top of the sixth. That’s Buckner’s first hit of the series.

Sweet Water will now change pitchers.

12:59 PM, Getting good: Decatur Heritage scores one in the top of the sixth and has runners on first and second wtih one out.

12:53 PM, 2 innings to go: After 5 innings, Sweet Water leads 6-1.

12:40 PM, Tough break: Sweet Water‘s Jonah Smith doubles to open the bottom of the fourth, but he’s out at third when his head-first slide sends him past the bag and tagged out. Sweet Water still leads 6-1.

12:33 PM, Score!: Decatur Heritage scores one in the top of the fourth but trails 6-1.

12:28 PM, Adding to the lead: Sweet Water adds three more in the bottom of the third and now leads 6-0. Decatur Heritage has just one hit.

12:06 PM, Lead growns: Sweet Water adds another run, thanks to a bad throw on a pick-off attempt, and now leads 3-0 with one out in the bottom of the second.

11:54 AM, Another run: Luke Davis doubled home Hunter Mendenhall‘s and Sweet Water leads 2-0.

11:51 AM, Early lead: Hunter Mendenhall‘s RBI double gives Sweet Water a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

11:43 AM, Here we go: It’s Game of the Class 1A championship series. Sweet Water sends Braiden Broussard to the hill, while Decatur Heritage counters with Trace Lentz.

Class 1A Game 2: Decatur Heritage 2, Sweet Water 1

11:13 AM, Star of the game: Decatur Heritage right-hander Grayson Wakefield threw a complete-game two-hitter. He struck out six and walked two.

11:09 AM, It’s final: Decatur Heritage wins 2-1 over Sweet Water in Game 2, which lasted just 76 minutes.

We’re on to the winner-take-all Game 3, y’all. Winner takes home the Class 1A state title. First pitch is expected a little at 11:40 a.m.

11:05 AM, Taking the lead: Decatur Heritage scores on Carter Sample‘s sixth-inning, infield fielder’s choice and now leads 2-1. Sweet Water must score in the top of the seventh or we’re heading to a Game 3.

11 AM, Good opportunity: Decatur Heritage bunts pinch-runner Stratton Orr to second with one out in the bottom of the sixth. It’s still tied 1-all.

10:42 AM, Still tied: After 4 1/2 innings, Decatur Heritage and Sweet Water are still tied at 1-all in Game 2 of the Class 1A baseball championship series. Sweet Water won Monday’s Game 1.

10:37 AM, Odd inning: Decatur Heritage got two hits in the bottom of the fourth, but Sweet Water got a double play and threw out Walker Jones at second as he tried to stretch a single into a double. Game is still tied 1-all.

10:32 AM, That was risky: Sweet Water‘s Jonah Smith scores from second on a groundout by Hunter Mendenhall, tying the game at 1-all. That’s a nice piece of base-running.

10:30 AM, A hit: Sweet Water‘s Jonah Smith and William Huckabee open the fourth with back-to-back hits, ending the no-hit bid by Decatur Heritage right-hander Grayson Wakefield.

10:17 AM, Decatur Heritage takes lead: Garrett Buckner‘s sacrifice fly drives in Jackson Parker for a 1-0 lead after two innings.

9:54 AM, No hits: Decatur Heritage goes three-up/three-down in the first and it’s still scoreless after one inning.

9:57 AM, Quick work: Sweet Water drew a leadoff walk, but the Bulldogs are still retired three-up/three-down in the top of the first. Decatur Heritage now will bat in bottom of the first.

9:54 AM, Early start: We started six minutes early, y’all.

9:53 AM, Here we go: Sweet Water will bat first, going against Decatur Heritage right-hander Grayson Wakefield. Sweet Water will counter with right-hander Sasha Smith on the mound.

9:48 AM, Almost ready: The National Anthem has been sung, and the this first game — Sweet Water (31-7) vs. Decatur Heritage, Game 2 in the Class 1A championship series — should start on time at 10 a.m.
