Tebow to take first professional swing at baseball – WJXT Jacksonville

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The next act in Tim Tebow’s professional sports career will officially begin Monday morning. The former quarterback is now in Port St. Lucie at the New York Mets’ minor league complex as part of the team’s instructional league for the next few weeks.

There’s expected to be plenty of fanfare when Tebow takes the field with his new teammates. The anticipated attention to the Mets’ instructional league will most likely be the most the franchise has ever seen, simply because of Tebow’s presence.

The Instructional league is typically a roster full of young players, 18 and 19-year-olds, who have just been drafted are getting their first taste of professional baseball. The same is true for Tebow, except the 29-year-old will almost certainly be the oldest player at the Mets facility for the next few weeks.

When Tebow signed with the Mets, the team held a conference call, when the NFL quarterback-turned-baseball player said he was excited to get out on the field and prove he can play.

“Everything is going to be an adjustment for me,” Tebow said. “It will be just getting an opportunity to go out there, practice everything and really see where my skills are at, and how I can improve all of them. It’s just putting in the work and also listening to the coaches and advice.”
